Okay, so I may have done a silly thing...
Yes, I think I may have done one of the big common mistakes that many booktubers and other book platforms tells you not to do when requesting on NetGalley and or other ARC (advance reader copy) websites. I requested one too many titles and didn't expect to be accepted for many and now...the dreaded Feedback Ratio Percentage is low. Like in the high 20ish.
How did it happen? Where did I go wrong? Well, it started off with being rejected/declined for a handful of titles (mainly from the Big Four Publishers) on the requests I put in, so I got annoyed and tried to grab a handful of 'Read Now' books that were available. I did okay with that and when I cycled through a majority of them, I decided to do it again with the 'Read Now' books and send a few requests here and there. So where did I go and screw that all up? I kept seeing titles that I wanted to read and went "It's not like I'll get approved or anything so why not." Well, while some of those titles came to exactly that. Others did not. I have this bad habit of going for more things instead of clearing off my plate first.
Currently, I sit at having 16 books on NetGalley and 2 books on Booksirens. Now, some of those are not as serious. One is a manga, another a reference book about Greek history/mythology.
However, it's still a nice pile of arcs I need to work through. I'm just grateful I had the common sense to watch the publication dates so they're at least spread out a bit.
I blame impatience. That and gluttony. I want to read all these books. I love to read and there are so many good titles coming out that I kind of went...well, a little crazy. This also leads to my many book hauls that kind of got out of control. Won't lie. I went crazy. I'm still trying to reel it in. But let's just say I had so many books coming in that barely had any time to read or enjoy them. That's not a good feeling.
Personal issues aside, it's that serotonin kick of buying things you want vs. things you could have lived without or found another means of getting. For instance, I could have found some of the books I bought through the library. I even signed up for a few subscriptions to help combat the buying. Still, I'm a book lover that has a habit to collect (even if I don't end of up reading them) so it's struggle.
But long story short, I'm going to try and behave....maybe. At least until I can get through these Arcs and then maybe start working on some of my physical books. I have a pile of BOTM (Book of the Month) books piling up that I still haven't read. Also a bunch of boxsets that I've turned into a sort of challenge for myself. Also dipped into a fun little challenge that @bookslikewhoa on youtube with trying to read as many Nora Roberts/JD Robb's books. I'm also working on trying to read as many Agatha Christie books as well. I can say my TBR has grown significantly with watching her channel.
