Weekly Reading Blog #1 (yes, trying this out)

 Boo!

Yes, it is I. Your favorite procrastinating ghost - Cas or Caz (for the cool kids.)

Alright, so I've been trying to work my way through (wad my way through is a better description) of library books, ARCs and some books that I have on TBR that I'd to complete soon. And maybe get some reviews actually done... Ha, I know. Look at me, the dreamer.

Okay, on to the list shall we?

(Just to note, I did end up putting some book on the back burner in order to work on the more pressing ones. Yes, I can do that.)

Currently Reading:

Year One - Nora Roberts (just actually started this one) and so far, I do like what I'm seeing...er reading.

Within the first few pages, it had my attention. [Library eBook] This might turn into a buy for me. Reading this so I can tag along with Mara and the others on her channel for their book club on YouTube. I've only read a few  (completed) of Nora's JD Robb In Death series, so this is a little new for me.

The Unflinching Ash - Angela Armstrong [ARC@booksirens] Definitely liking this one so far.

Essentially, we follow the character, Ash the Unflinching who seeks to be a Mystic - a female Mystic which is unheard of as you would be deemed a witch instead. Male dominated, Ash wishes to rectify this by winning the Queen's seal, which is given to those who compete to win such an honor and title. But Ash has to make sure she's being chased as a witch in the mean time.

I like the style of writing. Definitely like the characters and easy dialogue with them. There are times where I think I start to see some struggle with the characters themselves but nothing outrageous. More often than not, I'm mesmerized by the determination in each character's drive.

Dear Azula, I Have a Crush on Danny Phantom - Azura Tyabji and Jackson Neal [ARC@netgalley]

This is a collection of poems inspired by or in the premise of characters from animes, movies and cartoons between 90-00's era. This I'm going to save for when I wrap up reading this, especially since it's not that long, just each poem, I'm trying to absorb and think on - I don't like speed reading with poems. I like absorbing them. Thinking. Let that percolator run a bit on the backburner.

Anne of Green Gables: a Manga Classic - (Based on the work of Author: L.M. Montgomery) by Manga Classics Inc. [ARC@netgalley]

Again, I'm not going to talk much on this as it's pretty short on its own, so I'll have a review for it. I will say, having never read the original work (something I'm already planning on rectifying as I have a physical copy of it for a future TBR) I will say this is cute. Similar to reading the Romeo and Juliet Manga, this is a fun idea.

Price of Silence - Elle Mae [ARC@netgalley] I haven't read much of this yet.

From what I gather so far, I young lower level demon is cursed at young age. She cannot speak with causing physical pain for every noise she makes. Her parents (from what I understand) resent her. When a random letter comes in the mail, stating that she's been accepted to a high level prestige university with a tuition free ride, she feels like it can't be right. It's too good to be true. Her parents don't seem to care so long as she goes and gets a better life to help the "family" out. The writing on this is a bit hard for me at times. I don't want to make any commitment to this because it could just be the beginning that's getting me. We shall see...

(read) Born in Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy)  K.F. Breene [@KindleUnlimited]

Okay, so this book that I'm going to state is the second of a trilogy. I actually just read the first and gobbled it up within a few days time because that's how much I was into it. I saw a comparison to Janet Evanovich meets Ilona Andrews's Kate Daniels series. While I have not even finished Magic Bites, I will say the former rings true. I could easily see Stephanie Plum and Reagan (our heroine) having some pow-wows in the bar with the 'real hurricanes' of NOLA.

I did notice some people were complaining that it was too much sarcasm from the heroine or in no way like KD. I...I hate that about reviews. You should not read it because you love another book. You read it because it sounds interesting. Why read something that you are going to compare it to another's work over and over again? That's a disservice to the author and potential readers, imo. But yeah, the internet *HUGE EYEROLL* can never be wrong. Possibly never right either. And please, if you don't like this book, that's fine too. There is nothing wrong with something not being your cup of tea. Just give a R-E-S-P-E-C-T (yes, I sang that internally. It's very hard not to.) I'll put my soapbox away now. Apologies for whipping it out so unexpectedly.

I am currently reading the second book called Raised in Fire and so far like it. More on that later...

Still working on getting some reviews done for non-Arc books.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. To be honest, I may skip this. I feel like almost everyone has already covered it in some form or way. I did like it. I rated it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and plan to continue reading the next two at some point.

Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells. If you read my earlier posts, I struggled with this one. I don't know if it was my headspace or not. I still gave it a ⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating, although honestly, it was more of a 3.5 round up.

I did DNF In the Shadow of Mt. Diablo: The Shocking True Identity of the Zodiac Killer by Mike Rodelli. I just...there was something about this book. I don't know why but the author kept repeatedly kept bringing up a topic but only brushing on before stating "more on that later" or "we'll talk about in Chapter 18" and while I get it, he does it so often, it becomes hard to keep straight everything he's brought up already for when we get to the elusive Chapter 18.

I don't know. I kept falling asleep every time I started to read it after awhile and realized I was struggling. The writing itself is fine but...you get bogged down with info dumping with no point at the end of each explanation, it gets old. And he definitely seems to have issues with Robert Graysmith (author of Zodiac/movie of the same name based on his book.)

I did rate it on writing alone ⭐⭐⭐. But yeah, I know a good amount of Zodiac lore (evidence, heh) and this is just...I don't know.

Well, that's it for right now. I'm hoping to try and work on some form of a book haul soon. Also, I might be doing that for Book of the Month hoarding...heh, yeah.

Until next time, spook you later!  👻👻👻👻👻
