Currently Reading Post | Update on a few things

Oh, why hello lovely spooksters. It's your lovable, huggablebutcannotbecauseyaknow - corporeal - ghost. Coming to pop in and say hello and give you all the tid bits of what I've been up to in the book related world. This includes: current reads, wrap ups of other reads, some YT binge watching, a little much free will of my spook funds on hauls that at the time felt justified but as the boo-hubs says, I have enough for the moment. I may have to actually go through with the Book Buy Ban for a bit. Like...a 6 month one. For funds, a kick in the patoot to get on my massive collection of tbrs, and...did I say moolah? Heh.

Anyways, for those that pop in and read the insanty and like what you read, please, feel free to leave me a comment or emjoi so I know to keep it coming!

On to the post she says!!!!

So as I said, I have been reading a bit.

Current Reads:

I got this as an ARC on NetGalley. Went and listened to the audiobook on Scribd and suprisingly (not towards the book but actually doing an audiobook) was a success. For those that may not know, I struggle when I try to listen to audiobooks. I even tried listening to a reread book but realized it had been too long and I got too lost and confused. But the first of this series was very easy to get into and I got the vibes of Stephanie Plum mixed with a bit of southern hospitality that...Ms. Steph does...not have. I rec you give this a try if you like Cozy Mysteries. This is a good series to try.

Another ARC from BookSirens (though I think this may have been available on NetGalley as well) is an interesting find. I was not expecting the first few chapters to be so dark but it seems to be carrying itself well without dumping too much. A paranormal story of a girl who never quite knew of any such things suddenly is thrown into said world...well one of that world's jails actually. Why? She's been accused of murder and all she can remember is a white wolf running, something tackling her and blacking out. So what now? Oh, break out! Of course!

I have started a few others but not enough to really comment on just yet. I have a handful of ARCs that I've been trying to make a dent in before their Pub dates and I want to stay on top of that. Also, I do plan on taking a break from NetGalley and BookSirens (well, maybe not BookSirens) so I can work on my own TBR stacks I have. They've started to build a castle and glare at me from atop of a fort. I think my (afterlife) life is in danger if I don't start working on those soon.

Speaking of! I've been more active on Instagram (cassietheghostluvsbooks) so if you'd like more up to date postings, you can check there as well. I will, of course, post here as well. Maybe I'll do a wrap of posts from there to here. Or not. We shall see. But anways, I spoke about BookoftheMonth and how I now have a nice stack that I need to get to. I posted on IG about figuring out which to start - no replies on that so then I turned to the old reliable (yet grumpy at the time because to be fair...he WAS sleeping when I started to incessantly poke him) to pick a book out of the selection and he did.

So my first book of the month read will be:

THE BROKEN GIRLS by SIMONE ST. JAMES

This book I actually picked thanks to a recc on @oliviareadsalatte on YT mentioned for anyone that likes paranoral thrillers or would like to try the genre, this is the author to go to. So I went and shall read and be happy.

I just finished reading:

Rated: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!

While it did have some puns to all the horror cliched movies out there, I do believe that was Grady's point. In some ways, I definitely felt this was reminiscent of Scream and how Wes Craven poked fun at it while still delievering a nice one, two punch with his movies. I also liked his The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires was also a fun one and my first Grady Hendrix. And it seems these will not be my last either.

And Finally, I've come to the end and my...confession. I have...*sad face* a book bu-buy-buying problem. I need a therapist for this shit. But, yeah. I went and did it again.

At first, I thought I was some what tame with it. I did a mini haul and posted on IG

And then...things got weird. I went and bought a handful of books (which I put up on a separate haul post) then I spotted a sale on BookOutlet which oy...they are trying to make me bankrupt with their email sales. And then...I learned of a site from a booktuber and I both love and hate it. Why love? Because it's an awesome way to get used books from fellow book lovers. Why hate? Cause it's more book buying addiction issues. So yes, the Book Buying Ban of 6 Months is going to be...fun (a bitch.)

I have given myself a small compensation for that because going cold turkey don't work for my silly ass. I will allow myself my Book of the Month's and maybe (if I behave) two other books. Hopefully I can stick to this. Wish me luck, cause this is gonna suck SO MUCH.

Anybody else trying to avoid bankrupting themselves on books? Need support? Chibi Ghost Cheerleader will cheer you on!

Leave me a comment if you are or aren't. If you found ways to avoid buying or tricks to stop yourself. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'll be posting my September (Wishlist) TBR soon!

As always Spook y'all laters ghost buds!!!
